✦ Exegesis — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Exegesis is a Bible reading tracker made for family and friends. It is free, has no ads, no analytics, and no third-party tracking of any kind. This page describes the little it does collect and why.
What the app collects
With no account (iOS app): nothing. Your reading progress is stored only on your device and never leaves it.
If you create an account (optional in the iOS app, used for syncing with the web app), we store:
- Your chosen username and display name.
- A one-way hash of your password (we never store the password itself).
- Which Bible chapters you have marked as read, with timestamps.
- Any feedback you choose to send through the in-app feedback form.
What we do with it
Only what the app needs: keeping your reading progress in sync across your devices and the web app. Nothing is sold, shared, or used for advertising. Data lives on a privately operated server.
Bible text
ESV passages are fetched live from Crossway's licensed ESV API when you read in-app and are never stored on your device or our server beyond a brief in-memory cache. NIV reading opens Bible Gateway's own website, which has its own privacy policy.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Account → Delete Account (or ask us to do it). Deletion is immediate and removes your account, reading progress, and history from the server. Progress kept locally on your device stays yours.
